From humble beginnings in Kyoto (Japan) over 400 years ago, Sumitomo soon made a big name in the Copper business (known as the 'King of Copper') and is one of the most successful companies in the metal business. Four centuries later, Sumitomo is now a diversified and globally known name and is made up of hundreds of different entities operating in every type of business and industry. One of the best known members of the Sumitomo family is Sumitomo Corporation (the Trading House), with over 800 subsidiaries in over 70 different countries.

In true form, the company looked to its roots and in the Summer of 2008, the Corporation created a new company in Jebel Ali Free Zone (United Arab Emirates), dedicated to the Steel Pipe and Plate products. The new company, SC Tubular & Steel Products (SCTSP), is the first of its kind within Sumitomo and it is set-up to promote the sale of Line Pipe, Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and Steel Plates. SCTSP aims to provide the best possible level of support to the Middle East region and contribute to the stable and sustained growth of Sumitomo Corporation.
